How Long Does a SCUBA Tank Last Underwater? What You Need To Know
Просмотров 93411 месяцев назад
In this video, we discuss How Long a SCUBA Tank Will Last Underwater. We go over the factors that determine how long steel and aluminum tanks last underwater. The first factor is the size of the tank, with larger tanks lasting longer than smaller ones. The second factor is the depth of the dive, as deeper dives require more gas consumption. The third factor is the diver's breathing rate, with h...

    This is excellent and very detailed! I really like the one-handed number method for the reasons that you say you teach it. A few more that I thought of: "Out of Air" (throat slash); "Low on air" (fist to chest); "Come up a little" (gesture with open palm, fingers up and down); "Level off" (flat hand left to right ); "Cut" (scissors motion) ;"Line" or "rope" (fingers crossed); "computer stop/deco is clear" (wipe computer face with palm); "turn around" (spin vertical finger); "A little" or "small" (thumb almost touching index finger); "Cramp" (fist bumping affected area); and alternative "stop" or "hold" (vertical fist).

    Cressi is was of those, like all italian brand, they are much smaller then you are used to, so don't feel ashamed, because if you wear Large you would need to buy XL. I guess it's because italian people are different build then rest of Europe. It's even still like this, so we still say 1,8m is standard height while in Italy it's 1,75. Well it's what we told in rest of Europe. But it's a kind of fact in Europe, those in the north are mostly taller then those in the south. 😯

    Curious that you said steel tanks are heavier. I'm interested to hear what this is based on, because apples-to-apples capacity-wise, steel is lighter out of the water. The link in your video doesn't work and I couldn't find anything on your website about different tanks, so here's some info from Faber and Thunderbird: Al80 - 31.9 lbs LP85 - 31.2 lbs HP80 - 28.3 lbs

    I prefer a stiletto knife with one straight edge and one jagged edge, they are one of the most versatile knives for diving. Can be used for everything from gutting a fish to sawing rope.

  • @markusknorr6497
    @markusknorr6497 6 месяцев назад

    Aluminum tanks are more heavy than comparable steel on land but lighter in the water when empty. So you need more lead with aluminum that you have to carry in addition to the heavier aluminum tanks. Except for stage tanks where aluminum is mandatory i can not think of any situation where aluminum is the prefferable choice. The medium 12 liter steel at 232 bar at around 13 kg empty is a real nice setup with more air to breathe and less weight to carry than your 80 cft aluminium. It has much less impact on the trim.

  • @jeffconley6366
    @jeffconley6366 6 месяцев назад

    I also carry a folding knife attached to a bolt snap. Suggestion, an ALL serrated blade cuts line better. If you wear gloves make sure you can open your knife with your gloves on. Also, don't look like a Christmas tree (potential entanglement points). Only carry the items on you that you might need for that dive.

  • @p-dog2837
    @p-dog2837 6 месяцев назад

    im going to choose 12Liter Steel cylinders with max 200 bar, they are lighter than the 230 bar cylinders and nearly balanced when they are empty. On land less heavy than aluminum cylinders and under water also good to handle if it comes to sidemount. Will use them in fresh water with a drysuit.

    Don't forget the possibility to use heated undergarment, like vest gloves or whole suit! I use separated heated gloves and vest (Vest on medium and gloves on full). Also the big advantage of using a drysuit: You can put at home the undersuit, so no bare body exposure to the weather elements on the dive site!

    Not sure why you decided ratchet strap is must have for divers out of all other gear, 99% of divers will never buy tanks, and tying tanks to each other does not help, my 2x12 slide in my trunk if I don't use rubber mat or something to hold them, dive light is much better choice than strap

      I agree with you on this. As a cave diver, we always carry a backup mask. Its for me and my team. In recreational, open water, you just surface if you lose your mask. In deco or in a cave, you need back ups of everything. You're still an idiot though

    Great video. Make sure you practice DSMB deployment often. Don’t wait until you need to deploy. I am a FL diver and I deploy my DSMB on every spring dive as it typically is a very benign environment to practice in. I fell very comfortable deploying on drift dives along the coast. I actually carry two DSMBs; a large DSMB that can easily be inflated on the surface and a smaller DSMB that I can easily deploy at depth. Also, I would add signaling devices- whistle and mirror. I always have a small flashlight hooked to my BP/W.

    - Don't get too big of a dSMB. The bigger the dSMB, the harder it is to keep it upright. Narrow and long is better than wide and/or short. For durability it's best to get one with both sides stitched. - Most spools need a lot of preparation before they're suitable for use underwater. If your spool is overwound, you need to remove a lot of line to clear the holes enough so you can thread the line through. Make a large loop in your line with two small loops at the side and the top so you can easily untangle it. - Have more than one cutting device, ideally two different types of cutting devices. The EezyCut Trilobite is by far the best and most versatile cutting device available at the moment, but it's limited in the size of line or rope you can cut. Having an additional serrated edge blade or a set of trauma shears on you is a good idea. I personally carry four cutting devices: 2 Trilobites, a serrated edge folding knife, and a set of trauma shears. - In addition to a backup mask, bring some spare mask straps to the dive site. Silicone straps can develop small nicks that can quickly turn into a tear. In addition I'd recommend always having a small dive light on your harness, even during day dives. They're great to peek into small holes and crevices, and to bring back color at depth. Should you become lost at sea, they're also great for signalling, and of course they can function as a backup light during night or cave dives.
